On Fox News' website there was an article in the politics section called Obama's Push for Copenhagen Deal Could Violate Constitution, Critics Say. It's about how President Obama may sign an agreement at the Copenhagen Climate Summit without the consent or officialism of the U.S. Congress. Many critics are against this because it would mean that Obama would be able to sign something that the U.S. would have to follow but didn't actually get a chance to vote for through their state representatives in Congress.
Obama, who is even told by democrats with similar views not to do this, might go through the EPA and not Congress to sign a treaty to bind the U.S. to a cap of CO² emissions. But, as the Republican House Speaker states, "President Obama cannot bind the American people to job killing international agreements on climate change without the advice and consent of the United States Senate..." He says this because the U.S. has checks and balances in our Republican system of government that makes it so that one branch of the government, such as the Exacutive Branch, cannot just go off signing a bill. Which would make it law, but they cannot because he needs the consent of the people, which is given through state representatives in Congress.
Our Executive Branch going through something else besides Congress to sign something is a complete and utter violation of my rights, and more importantly our rights. The Constitution was created by some very amazing people, some very Godly people. God would not have let it be created and followed so closely by believers in him if He didn't believe in its truth. Don't get me wrong, the Bible is the truth but I believe that the Constitution was sent forth by The most high one, through people that God chose and to break it and cut corners is wrong, and against you as an American and a human.
To explain this article to someone would be me saying to you that the President of the United States is breaking the country's founding backbone, the Constitution and Declaration of Independence, just to sign something that has been proven to be wrong and falsified over and over again.
"I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."
The best of our President's ability would be to not sign that treaty.
Stay tuned for my next post coming about the fall through in Copenhagen...
